Calfee Park Pulaski, VA: A Look at the History

1935

The Civilian Conservation Corps built the park in 1935 after the Great Depression. They named it after their mayor, Ernest Calfee.

1970s

Calfee Park became a venue for horse shows, carnivals, and sporting events, including Minor League Baseball.

1999

There was a significant upgrade behind home plate, swapping out old seating for individual reserved seats. They also beefed up the grandstand along the first base side, extending it from home plate to first base. Upgrades also included open-air suites right by the field and beyond the dugout along that line. There’s also a deck sectioned off for box seating. On the right side of the field, they added 13 boxes. It didn’t stop there — they threw in a new concession stand and a home clubhouse.

2009

Renovations included a 14th box behind home plate, giving folks a prime view down the first-base line. However, if you’re up in the sky box, the roof blocks your sight of left field. They also built a new indoor facility, boasting two hitting tunnels that can double as pitching areas.

2014

In 2014, the New York Yankees and the new park owners dropped a bombshell. They pumped over $3.5 million into enhancing the park for the 2015 season. And, get this: the Yankees took over from the Mariners in Pulaski that year.

2018

The Pulaski Yankees added about 675 more seats and a fresh upper concourse along the third-base line. This high-end area features a new concession stand, extra restrooms, and a rooftop party deck. They also upgraded the main concourse to match the new one, connecting the whole park.

Before the 2019 season kicked off, the Pulaski Yankees went all out with more upgrades:

  • a new concourse along the third-base line
  • a three-tiered party deck out in left field
  • a new walk-in retail store.

And guess what? That party deck snagged the title of Best Ballpark Improvement (under $1 million) by Ballpark Digest. Now, that’s how you spruce up a stadium!
