The holiday season is quickly approaching and we couldn’t be more excited. The hustle and bustle that the holidays bring can leave everyone a little scatterbrained. That being said, it is important to keep the following safety precautions in mind to ensure you and your family stay safe this time of the year.
If you plan to take trips out of town this holiday season, make sure to keep your travel plans off of social media. Posting on social media about when you are leaving or coming back makes it easy for anyone to get this information and break into your house while you are gone.
Decorating the outside of your house is always a fun holiday tradition, but it can easily turn dangerous if you are not precautious. Before putting the lights up, make sure that there aren’t any frayed cords that could potentially start fires. Invest in some timers that are scheduled to automatically turn the lights off at night or during the day to save energy as well.
Keep the expensive presents out of sight from the street and avoid disposing of the gift boxes in your outside garbage can. You don’t want a potential thief to know you just got a brand new television based on the empty box in your trash. Bring the boxes outside right before the trash is collected and keep all your new items hidden from windows to avoid this problem.
Now is the time to invest in a home security system or to check that your current system is up to date. Whenever you leave the house, turn the alarm on to protect your house and deter criminals from entering. Also, make sure that all windows and doors are closed and locked at all times.
