First, you will need a Virginia fishing license to fish Claytor Lake. You can buy a license in person at the DWR headquarters or register online. The license is valid for one year except for when you get a 5-10 day or lifetime fishing license. Different types of licenses are for freshwater, saltwater, and sports-related fishing. Claytor Lake has three public boat ramps. On the northeast area of the lake, you will find the Claytor Lake State Park Boat Ramp. It has a concrete surface with paved parking and four lanes.
On the other hand, the Harry DeHaven Park Boat Ramp is on the east. It has two lanes. Dublin VDWR Boat Ramp is on the north side. It also has two lanes. Both ramps have paved parking and concrete surfaces.
