Colleges and universities in the NRV produce a highly-skilled workforce. As a result, national companies recruit their workforce from these institutions because of their diverse programs that meet global standards. For instance, Radford University and Virginia Tech are the region’s leading research centers. Others like Blacksburg High School are among the top 100 best STEM schools in the U.S.

Apart from a high-quality education, students in top colleges and universities in NRV can compete in national sports competitions. These schools spread across Christianburg, Floyd County, Montgomery County, Giles County, Blacksburg, Pulaski County, and Radford.

Top College and Universities in NRV

Virginia Tech

Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University are among the top 10 best colleges in Virginia. This former military technical institute is a research and development powerhouse because of its innovative campus. Also, students and alumni call themselves “Hokies,” not only because of their football team. They got this name because of their academic involvement in different communities. They also have overseas study programs and a 1,800-acre farm.

Radford University

Radford is a public university with multiple awards for undergraduate, graduate, and sustainability programs. In addition, the university has countless opportunities for student engagement, leadership, and community service. They focus on preparing their students for professional work environments. Also, they compete in 16 varsity athletics for men and women and have 300 club organizations. Their Cybersecurity Lab and College of Business and Economics are globally-recognized as well.

New River Community College (NRCC)

NRCC has two campuses in Christianburg and Dublin, part of the Virginia Community College System. Their programs include Arts and Sciences and Applied Science associate degrees, diplomas, certificates, and career studies certificates. Also, they accept transferees, international and veteran or dependent students. Another interesting fact is that NRCC practices the Expressive Activity Policy or Speech Law that allows activities of different student organizations. 

Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM)

VCOM is in the VT Corporate Research Center, just minutes from downtown Blacksburg. Additionally, they have partnered with Virginia Tech to share educational resources and exchange activities. They aim to improve healthcare in underserved communities through community-focused and globally-minded physicians. Forty percent of the graduates since 2007 have been practicing medical healthcare in Virginia’s rural and underserved areas.
